The New N100 Commemorative Note Unveiled Today By President Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan has formally unveiled the new N100 commemorative notes at the Presidential Villa, Abuja at a short ceremony.
Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Godwin Emefiele, joined the President to unveil the note during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
Punch quoted the CBN governor, Emefiele as saying the N100 note unveiling was done to commemorate the 100 years of Nigeria's amalgamation, listing some countries such as Morocco, Russia and Costa Rica that had before now issued currencies to mark epochal events.
Emefiele listed the design platforms on which the note was made to include security, durability, attractiveness, cultural heritage and transformation.
Punch reported that President Jonathan praised the apex bank for coming up with such a noble initiative adding that commemorative N50 notes were also introduced to mark the nation’s 50th independence anniversary.
