A renowned academic and political analyst, Mr Uche Igwe has described the recent call for the arrest of the Minister for Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and his counterpart in Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonaya Onu as mischievous and diversionary. In a terse electronic mail sent to SKYTREND NEWS from his base in the United Kingdom, Mr. Igwe expressed surprise at what he described as an undue politicization of what is clearly a criminal matter. He wondered how a supposedly respected body like the National Judicial Council (NJC) could be playing an ostrich game with a sensitive matter like corruption? Hear Him: “Since the judges were arrested, there have been desperate moves by particular sections of the Nigerian political elite who may be either sympathizers or beneficiaries of the actions of these judges to divert attention from the real issues. Where in the world will anyone restrain the secret service from legitimately arresting a suspect? “There is an ongoing media war against the government of President Muhumadu Buhari whose target is to ridicule the war against corruption by bringing in flimsy human rights issues and dragging in innocent persons. “This belated finger pointing at Mr. Amaechi and Dr. Onu falls flat before reason and common sense. It will fail, he asserted. Mr Igwe further states that Nigerians can see through the antics of what he refers to as “unpatriotic elements”, asking “Are Amaechi and Onu now members of the Department of State Services? “My simple advice to these judges is to face the law’. President Buhari has said it over and again that any of his Ministers caught in corruption will face the law, he added. Igwe believes that it’s now the role of the concerned agencies to examine the complains these judges made one year after and see how relevant they are in line with our statues. According to him, what Nigerians are interested in, is to see these arrested judges prosecuted, discharged if they are innocent or punished if they are guilty.
