While the case was pending, Buhari , through his lawyer, gave the money to the judge. The case continued until Buhari became president and when the Judge ruled against Buhari in the case, Buhari went to appeal and in the appeal, he had 13 SANs who were led by Femi Falana, the activist. Soon thereafter, there were threats to the life of the lawyer who filed the case against Buhari and he abandoned the case and the case was withdrawn and struck out. Soon thereafter, the DSS stormed the residence of Justice Ademola and accused him and his wife of corruption, arrested them and put them on trial. During the trial, a witness testified how Saint Buhari as a private citizen, gave the ‘gift’ to the same judge handling his case. When the news broke out, the lawyer admitted that he was the person that took the money to the judge and that the money was a gift from Buhari ( who was not yet president then) to the judge to enable him prepare for her daughter’s wedding. The lawyer argued that the money was a gift and not a bribe. I have practiced law as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria for close to two decades. I have appeared before the High Courts, Courts of Appeal and Supreme court and I can confidently tell you that the argument in this terrain is not plausible at all. First of all, how many judges do we have in Nigeria for Buhari as the APC presidential candidate to single out Justice Ademola out of all the judges in Nigeria as a recipient of the gift of N500,000? The fact is that this judge was the person handling the case of Buhari. This judge had the power to stop Buhari from contesting the election and from being the president. This judge had the power to shoot down all the ambition of Buhari at that time so it was clear that the judge wielded enormous power over Buhari. So at the time that the N500,000 money was given, it was clear that the money was to pervert justice and create an unfair advantage for Buhari. If the argument is that the money was a gift, how come Buhari did not give the same gift to all the over 500 judges we have in Nigeria? Why must it be Justice Adeniyi Ademola, the same judge handling his certificate case. Now listen. As at 2015 when that bribe was given Buhari was a private citizen and that sum was a big sum of money. It is not now that N500k is nothing due to the useless govt we have. How rich was Buhari to have dashed or given out half a million Naira to someone who is not indebted to him? Was Buhari so rich that he could just go about throwing N500k to people who did or would do nothing for him? Even if someone argued that Buhari did not know of the bribe, that argument can’t be true because according to the witness, the lawyer said that the money was fro Buhari to the judge and in my years as a trial lawyer, it is impossible to believe that such a sum of money could pass through the hand of a lawyer to a judge without the poor client knowing (Buhari had always claimed to be a poor man) I know that if the judge accepted the money he is in pari delicto with Buhari for the offence of giving and receiving a bribe, but that is not the argument today. The argument today is that our president who claims to be a saint, our President who we were made to believe that he is an honest man, has been unmasked for who he truly is. This is not the first time Buhari has been fingered in scandals over corrupting or attempting to corrupt judges. A Supreme Court justice had earlier last year, stated that the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, told him that he was sent by Buhari to reach out to the judges over cases pending in their courts. Another Supreme Court justice, Justice Ngwuta, also stated how Ogbonnaya Onu tried to bribe him to pervert justice for the president. Taking all these snippets of evidence together, even a dull mind would arrive at the conclusion that Buhari and ministers have a penchant for corrupting or attempting to corrupt judges. It is a pity that Buhari and his govt is turning out to be the most corrupt govt, ever, in Nigeria. How can someone argue that a big sum of money you gave to a judge handling your case is not bribe? The money was given by a litigant to a judge handling his case through a lawyer handling the same case and someone said that it was not a bribe but a gift. Inukwa. Tell me something. Do they think that Nigerians are fools. I think that Buhari should be impeached immediately, arrested and prosecuted so he can have his day in court. The law should be applied equally to all persons. If members of the opposition could be arrested and prosecuted for corruption, is Buhari’s bribery to the judge not corruption? Shame on all the pseudo intellectuals who are forcing it on our throats that Buhari is not corrupt, shame. With this, you can all see that the man is just as dirty as all of the lot, if not dirtier.
