Eighteen people have been killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Bauchi.
Seventeen of the passengers on the bus were burnt beyond recognition in a fatal motor accident which caught fire on the road between Bauchi and Jos, police said.
A statement issued by Bauchi State police command's spokesperson, DSP Baba Mohammed, stated that the accident involving a DAF Truck with registration number XC 675 BAU and an 18 seater Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BAU 148 XR occurred on Sunday at Buzaye village in Bauchi State.
It further said that the Truck heading towards Jos had a head on collision with the loaded 18 seater bus coming from Abuja.
"As a result,the Bus was gutted by fire. Police patrol team attached to GRA Division and men of fire service from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic ( ATAP)rushed to the scene,put off the fire and rushed the victims to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for medical attention," the statement said.
According to the statement, 18 victims were certified dead adding that 17 of them were burnt beyond recognition and all the corpses have been deposited at the Motuary for postmortem examinations.
It added that two of the victims have been identified as Alhaji Adamu maijama'a and a Passenger, Yahaya Umar of Unguwan Dawaki,Bauchi.
Mohammed, therefore, urge members of the public whose relatives travelled from Abuja to Bauchi on Sunday to go the motor parks in Abuja and check the passengers manifest or report at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi to identify their relatives.
He said that the Police are carrying out investigation to ascertain actual cause of the accident.
