High Tech Centre holds Tech-preneurial hands-on Training sessions in Lagos – How you can participate

The High Tech Centre for Nigerian women and youths, a non-governmental organisation set up to develop capacities of women, youth, boys. girls, and job seekers in general in ICT, STEM ((Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and entrepreneurial skills has unveiled a 3-day National STEM summit Training of Trainers (TOT) starting in Lagos for the South West zone. It is themed: “Hands on the Tech-Wheels in a Digital Economy”.

The summit technical workshops, which is billed to hold in Lagos from Tuesday September 8th to Thursday September 10th, 2020 is being organised in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Association of Mobile Phone and Allied Traders of Nigeria (AMPAT), and other technology stakeholders.

According to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of High Tech Centre, Dr. Omowunmi Hassan, the trainings aim at empowering targeted groups in IoT PC Board assembly, solar panels assembly, mobile phones assembly, repairs and configurations, and laptops repairs and configurations, digital literacy skills and Cyber security Master class sessions.

Dr. Hassan adds, “With the Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the globe, and its attendant impact on many nations, people and institutions, it is imperative that we build new skills and technical know-how in our citizens across communities”.

She says her organisation by the upcoming training sessions is targeting training of at least 50 each of women, youths, boys and girls and men including retirees for the next 2-3 months as the training goes round to other States in geo-political zones of the country.

The 50 individuals which makes 200 people in all categories from every zone of the Federation shall be empowered after training with facilities such as tools and materials to start up on the trained technologies.

Every participant is expected to register with a token of N65,000 (sixty-five thousand naira) only, for all courses which, according to the organisation, has been highly subsidized by their various partners. Fees covers training materials with basic technical tools for the hands-on sessions, refreshments, and certificates only.

The Lagos South-West zone workshop holds at Eagles Park Hotel, 7 Obokun Close, Off Dipeolu Street, Off Johnson Street, Allen Avenue Bustop, Ikeja, Lagos.

High Tech Centre which was established in 2004 says by attending the workshop, participants will be able to harness manpower capacity and technical skills to get dilapidated, spoilt and unused tech facilities like solar panels, laptops, or desktop PCs, working again. The training will also teach on how to assemble new ones.

Young and old people (males and females) attending the training will be equipped with requisite science, technology, engineering arts, and mathematics (STEAM), and learning’s in more practical ways so they can aim at being developers and solution providers in any chosen tech fields in the future, according to the organisers.
