Government College Umuahia Repositioned to Provide Quality Education, Declares 2022/2023 Admission Open

Government College, Umuahia (GCU) is now open to junior secondary school – JSS 1 students from across Nigeria and beyond. Formerly a government-owned school, GCU is now managed by a reputable Trust – The Fisher Education Development Trust which has notable Old Boys.

The school offers a combination of the British and Nigerian curricula with a focus on excellence and a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focused curriculum whilst not disparaging the Art and Humanities.

Poised to educate students to become world leaders who can innovate and solve 21st-century challenges, GCU is committed to academic excellence and developing great leaders for a dynamic global society. GCU has over 100 years legacy and boasts of the most successful alumni flourishing across the globe, eminent Nigerians among whom are Chinua Achebe (late), novelist, poet, and critic; Charles Onyenma, former world court justice, Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, former Nigerian Minister of State for Energy and Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Ken Saro-Wiwa, writer, and environmental rights activist; Okwesilieze Nwodo, former governor of Enugu state among others.

Students seeking admission into year 7 can now apply to be admitted into Government College Umuahia. In addition to the subjects offered, GCU prepares students for national and international examinations such as BECE, Checkpoint, WASSCE, NECO, IGCSE, SAT, TOEFL, and IELTS. Students are also exposed to extracurricular activities such as football, basketball, volleyball, coding, and robotics, handball, tennis, music, chess, fencing, young farmers, JETS, and animation Clubs.
