2015: Time To End The Misrule And Impunity In Abia State, By Emeka Nwosu

Our political journey in 1999 started with the swearing in of Chief Orji Uzor Kalu as the executive governor of Abia State.

He ruled Abia without leading the State effectively. He turned Broadcasting Corporation of Abia (BCA) into his personal praise singing studio that only echoed his name and that of his mother as angels worthy of emulation. We witnessed a reign of terror as opposition figures were either hounded out of Abia or labelled robbers by the notorious Bakassi Boys under his tutelage. Many Abians had no choice but to pray he hands over to a successor.

The successor came in the person of his Chief of Staff, Theophilus Ahamefule Orji. He too toed the line of misrule and has left us more destitute than we were between 1999-2007. He fails to pay salaries as at when due and sacked civil servants from other states who have accepted Abia as their home. Many of these people have passed on and their families left in squalor.

Why were we labelled 'God's own State' only to be bedeviled by rulers who are so selfish they are richer than the state.

Let them show us the roads they have rehabilitated. Roads which were built by Chief Michael Okpara have all been rehabilitated in most of the other south eastern states except Abia. How is it possible for people in Enugu, Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi States to transverse their states without hitting a federal road while this cannot be said of Abia.

Shame on us for electing these wicked individuals and more shame if we elect any successor T A Orji gives to us.
