Three persons were on Tuesday burnt to death in a fire that occurred when the kegs of petrol they were trying to convey in a Civilian bus from Ikorodu to Isolo in Lagos exploded. The incident occurred along James Oni Street, Isolo.

Witnesses said the bus which was fully loaded with several 50-litre plastic jerry cans filled with petrol exploded after it hit a stationary truck parked in front of a bakery.

The driver of the stationary vehicle narrowly escaped death but he sustained fire burns. Three occupants of the bus among whom was a lady were however not as lucky as they were killed in the inferno.

The deceased were said to have been trapped in the vehicle while the fire raged on for hours.

A witness who identified himself as Tayo Olalekan said the bus had a brake failure and in a bid to limit the damage, the driver rammed into the stationary truck.

Residents of the area who said the explosion woke them from sleep, said that two people initially came out of the inferno alive before one died at the scene from the severe burns he sustained.

The Spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South-West Zone, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, also confirmed the incident.
