The Full Statement Reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly today, February 5, 2017, informing of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors. “The President had planned to return to Abuja this (Sunday) evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives. “Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes.” Government spokesmen have serially condemned rumors alleging that the president had died and advised Nigerians to desist from spreading such falsehoods. According to Sahara Reporters however, the president might need to remain in London for as long as four months to resolve a myriad of medical issues confronting the aging Nigerian leader. The online news blog quoted Presidency sources as saying that Mr. Buhari requires a major surgery that would force him to miss work for at least four months, but his kitchen cabinet members have refused to let him go for such a prolonged period due to the fear of him losing influence and power.
