EXCLUSIVE: REAL REASON SDP Suspended Donald Duke, Endorsed Buhari
The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has expelled Professor Jerry Gana and its Acting National Chairman Supo Shonibare with immediate effect.
The party, which endorsed President Mohammadu Buhari for a second term last week, also suspended its Presidential candidate Donald Duke.
SDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Yemi Akinbode, announced this at a news briefing in Abuja, adding that the reason for the suspension of Duke was because he was critical of the party and disrespecting it.
Akinbode said Gana and Shonibare were expelled for engaging in anti-party activities.
While Shonibare was accused of being the arrowhead of a splinter group, Gana was accused of setting up a parallel National Executive Committee in the party.
SKYTREND NEWS however gathered from impeccable sources that the real reason the party’s Presidential Candidate, Donald Duke was suspended was because he failed to initiate any media campaign throughout the period he had the presidential ticket.
According to the party source who confided in SKYTREND NEWS and pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, Duke was not ready to carry out any campaign activity. The source said he even failed to campaign in his very state.
The source said, “We met with Duke and ask him about his plan for campaign but he showed no interest. If we had given the ticket to Jerry Gana, at least he would have made some noise. But Duke was not ready to campaign or to spend any money. It was even the party that went to court on his behalf and borne all the expenses before the final court verdict that pronounced him as the rightful candidate. So we had to suspend him and endorse President Mohammadu Buhari. We just wasted money and he wasn’t ready to foot the campaign bills nor initial any campaign at all”
