BREAKING NEWS: Midnight Blast at Hospital Sparks Terror in Kebbi as Gunmen Strike Nearby Community
Fear spread across Kebbi State in the early hours of Tuesday after a loud explosion ripped through the premises of a general hospital in Bagudo, triggering panic and renewed anxiety over security in the region.
The blast, which occurred around midnight, was followed by the immediate deployment of joint security forces as authorities moved to contain what many residents feared could be the beginning of a coordinated attack.
Police Move Swiftly After Midnight Blast
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the explosion occurred within the premises of the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State.
A joint security team comprising police officers, military personnel, and local vigilante groups quickly sealed off the area to prevent further threats and restore calm.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and CBRN unit were brought in to assess the scene and determine the nature of the explosion.
No Casualties, But Property Damaged
Police authorities confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.
However, a building within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage from the explosion. Fortunately, all occupants had evacuated the area before the blast and escaped unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police has since ordered the reinforcement of security around the hospital with additional tactical units to prevent any escalation or breakdown of law and order.
Investigation Launched as Questions Mount
According to police spokesperson Bashir Usman, a comprehensive investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the explosion.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives to carry out forensic and intelligence work without interference.
Authorities assured the public that updates would be provided as soon as new findings emerge.
Tension Heightens After Gunmen Attack Nearby Community
The hospital explosion came barely hours after reports of a separate security incident in Gebbe, a community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Residents were thrown into chaos when gunmen reportedly stormed the area, firing sporadically and forcing families to flee into nearby villages and bushes in the dead of night.
Security forces have been deployed to the area to assess casualties and restore order.
Rising Anxiety Over Rural Security
Although police insist the situation remains under control, the back-to-back incidents have heightened fear among residents, especially in rural communities already grappling with banditry and violent attacks.
For many locals, the midnight blast at a hospital — a place meant for safety and healing — has crossed a psychological line.
Calm Urged, Vigilance Intensified
Security agencies say there is no immediate threat to the wider public, but residents are being urged to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and report suspicious movements promptly.
As investigations continue, Kebbi State finds itself once again confronting urgent questions about rural security, emergency preparedness, and the protection of critical public institutions.
