JUST IN: Fayose Pleads Not Guilty To N30.8bn Fraud Charge

Abuja, Nigeria News 21st October, 2018: The immediate past Governor of Ekiti, State, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday, appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos, where he pleaded not guilty to the allegation that he misappropriated N30.8 billion.

The anti-graft agency conveyed the ex-governor to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, in a white bus manned by heavy security Monday morning.

The court began sitting at 9am.

Fayose was brought to court straight from the EFCC custody, where he had been detained since last week when he submitted himself to the anti-graft agency, shortly after the expiration of his immunity from prosecution.

The 11-count charge were read to him before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.

Fayose is being defended by a former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).

The embattled former governor was charged to court by the EFCC.

A large number of his supporters were present in court, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

He pleaded not guilty to the 11 charges.

Agabi was also counseled for the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, when he was tried before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration.

The argument on his bail application is ongoing.
