The Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, describing the move as timely and strategic in addressing the nation’s growing security challenges.

The commendation followed the official communication forwarded to the Senate by the Presidency, in which President Tinubu expressed confidence that General Musa’s wealth of military experience, leadership capacity, and distinguished service record would significantly strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture.

This position was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos and signed by the Director of Communication of GPBN, Abiola Alaba Peters.

Reacting to the development, the newly elected GPBN President, Damilare Bankole, praised President Tinubu for what he described as a bold step towards restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions.

According to Bankole, the appointment of General Musa reflects the President’s firm commitment to tackling Nigeria’s insecurity head-on.

“We wholeheartedly commend His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for this well-considered appointment. General Musa is a soldier of impeccable integrity, proven competence, and long-standing service to the nation. This decision clearly signals the President’s seriousness about restoring security, stability, and confidence in our defence system,” Bankole stated.

He added that the emergence of General Musa as Nigeria’s Defence Minister raises renewed hope for strategic leadership, operational efficiency, and unwavering commitment to protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

The GPBN expressed strong optimism that the appointment will mark a significant turning point in the ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal threats to national security.

The guild further called on civil society organisations, the media, security stakeholders, and concerned Nigerians to rally support for the new Defence Minister as he begins the critical task of strengthening the nation’s security framework.

GPBN also congratulated General Christopher Musa on the well-deserved appointment and urged him to issue clear operational directives to the Armed Forces to intensify efforts against terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits threatening the peace and stability of Nigeria.
