HAPENNING NOW: Low Voter Turnout As Lagos Holds LG Elections


Elections into 57 seats in local governments (LGs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) of Lagos state have commenced.

The election is taking place across 13,323 polling units in the state.


The turnout is also dismal at PU 036, Ward E, Ikeja, only this time, there is no voter in sight. 

  • Lone voter waiting to perform his civic duty at PU 040, Ward E, Agbede village.

    Some residents are trying to intimidate electoral officers at PU 008, Ward C3, Kayode/Fadeyi, Odi-Olowo LCDA. They are insisting on voting without voter cards.


    Some commercial tricycle operators in the Liasu area of Ikotun shunned the movement restriction. Saheed Eniola, one of the operators, told NAN that he needs to work to provide food for his family.

    He said: “I can’t stay at home till 3:00 p.m. because of election; what will my family eat, nobody will give me money to feed my children if I don’t work.

    “Besides, I am not voting and I don’t know any of the candidates vying for the post in the election.” 

    Not much activity at PU001, Town Planning Office, Abesan Estate, Alimosho.

    Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor, and his wife, Ibijoke, in the process of accreditation to cast their votes at PU019, Femi Okunnu/Lateef Jakande Ward 09, Ikoyi 2, Eti Osa.

    Party agents at PU07, Ward F, Ikeja, argue over the positioning of voters.

    A voter at PU10, Adelaja, Ikeja, is pleading with youths to come out and vote.
