Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood filmmaker, has been found guilty of sexual assault in a retrial of his sex crimes case in New York.

In 2020, Harvey Weinstein was convicted of rape and sexual assault and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

But in April 2024, a New York appeals court overturned the conviction, ruling that the 73-year-old had not received a fair trial.

The court said the judge wrongly allowed testimony from women whose allegations were not directly tied to the charges.

Following the ruling, Weinstein was re-indicted on new sexual assault charges in September.

The retrial was based on testimony of two women, Miriam Haley, a former TV production assistant, and actress Jessica Mann, who had previously brought allegations against Weinstein in the 2020 trial.

It also included new claims from Kaja Sokola, a Polish former model and actress, who accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting her when she was 19.

They all claimed the former filmmaker forced himself on them when they were young and looking for work opportunities in the entertainment industry.

On Wednesday, June 11, after deliberating for five days, the jury found Weinstein guilty of assaulting Haley but found him not guilty of assaulting Sokola.

They have yet to return a verdict on a rape charge involving Mann and plan to resume deliberations on Thursday.

However, Weinstein pleaded not guilty to all charges, with his legal team arguing that the alleged encounters were consensual.

His lawyers also presented warm messages the women had sent to Weinstein after the alleged assaults.

Weinstein, whose treatment of women triggered the #MeToo movement in 2017, still has a 16-year sentence to serve for sex crimes he was convicted of in Los Angeles.
