JUST IN: Fayose Threatens To Quit PDP

The outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has threatened to leave the Peoples Democratic Party after the National Convention held on Saturday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The governor was quoted by Punch Newspaper as saying on Monday that he would renounce his “membership of the PDP anytime from now.”

He added, “After consultations, I will speak clearly to Nigerians.”

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had written to the Nigerian Customs to monitor and arrest the outgoing governor anytime he wants to run away from the country following an investigation of about N1.3 billion fraud case filed against him.

A former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, was declared the winner of the party’s presidential primary, defeating the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and eight others.

He emerged after a keenly contested primary held at Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Sunday.

The Chairman of the PDP Convention Committee and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, announced the results of the primary on Sunday morning.

He said Atiku polled 1,532 votes while Aminu Tambuwal polled 693 votes to place second.

Other results are, Bukola Saraki , 317 votes; Jonah Jang, 19 votes; Datti Ahmed, 5 votes; David Mark , 35 votes; Tanimu Turaki, 65 votes; Sule Lamido, 96 votes; Attahiru Bafarawa, 48 votes; Ibrahim Dankwambo, 111 votes; Ahmed Makarfi, 74 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso, 158 votes.

Why Atiku Will Give Buhari A Tough Fight In 2019 — Pastor Bakare

Meanwhile Pastor Tunde Bakare, serving overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), has said that former vice-president Atiku Abubakar will give President Muhammadu Buhari a tough fight for the presidency during the 2019 elections.

Bakare said this after Abubakar emerged the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, polling 1,532 votes to defeat his closest contender, Aminu Tambuwal, who polled 693 votes.

Speaking after delivering a speech on Nigeria’s 58th Independence in his church, Bakare said the fight for the number one position will be “eagle versus eagle” and not “eaglet versus an eagle”.

He said though Buhari enjoys the power of incumbency, Abubakar “is not going to take No for an answer when the two forces collide in the election”.
