Nigerian Troops Stop Boko Haram From Recapturing Gwoza, Kill 7 Terrorists

Troops of the Nigeria Army had had in the early hours of Friday repelled an attempt by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect to recapture Gwoza town of Borno State in north-east Nigeria.
 
The insurgents reportedly stormed the town in large numbers in the early hours of Friday and unleashed havoc but troops on ground responded with fire power and repelled them.
 
 
Anti-aircraft, AK-47 are among items recovered from the assailants in a battle that lasted till nearly 8AM.
 
The military put the number of dead terrorists in the Friday’s botched attack at seven.
 
The insurgents reportedly stormed the town in large numbers in the early hours of Friday and unleashed havoc but troops on ground responded with fire power and repelled them.
 
The Media Coordination of the ‘Operation Lafiya Dolae’, Colonel Tukur Gusau, said that the attack was targeted on troops of the 26 Brigade.
 
He said that seven Boko Haram terrorists were killed in the encounter while others fled towards the Sambisa Forest.
 
Colonel Tukur told a press conference that troops were on the trail of the fleeing insurgents.
 
According to him, the Air Force is sustaining aerial bombardment of flashpoints.
 
Gwoza town, bordering the notorious Sambisa forest was only liberated from the insurgents in March 2015.
 
Some residents have already abandoned the Gwoza makeshift camp in Maiduguri and since returned home.
