The Ogun State Police Command issued a stern warning on Monday, cautioning against the use of fireworks and announcing severe consequences for violators.
The statement, delivered by the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, cited numerous complaints from residents about the disruptive noise caused by fireworks in areas such as Sagamu, Ikenne, Ijebu Ode, and Sango Ota.
The police acknowledged the tradition of using fireworks during end-of-year celebrations but emphasized the need to curb the practice due to escalating security concerns and residents’ anxiety.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, declared a ban on the indiscriminate use of explosive fireworks in Ogun State, warning that violators would face punitive measures as per existing laws.
Residents were urged to be considerate of their neighbors’ peace and quiet, and young individuals flouting the directive were cautioned of the potential legal consequences.
