Policeman Brutally Shoots Undergraduate Dead During APC Primary In Delta
Delta, Nigeria News 4th October, 2018: A student of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, on Wednesday, has been shot dead by policeman during an APC primary in Delta State.
According to The Punch, A policeman deployed to the venue of the All Progressives Congress’ Delta North Senatorial District allegedly went berserk, shooting two students of the institution.
It was learnt that the incident led to pandemonium as the yet-to-be-identified policeman fled the scene after committing the crime.
One of the students shot by the suspect was said to have died before help could come, as delegates, who had stormed the venue to vote for their choice aspirant, also took to their heels.
The other victim was said to be recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre.
The incident almost ended the senatorial primary in which a wife of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mrs Mariam Ali; a former House of Representatives member for Ika South, Doris Uboh; and one Chief Oyibode, were jostling for the party’s tickets.
It was gathered that the trigger-happy policeman fled for fear of being lynched by students who trooped out in their hundreds to avenge the death of their colleague.
Although it was not clear as of the time of filing this report what led to the shooting, a student said the policeman opened fire on the victims while they wanted to force their way into the school for lectures.
Voting, however, continued after other security agents at the venue brought normalcy to the area.
The Speaker of the Students Union Government of the institution, Onochie Ubani, wondered why such a sensitive exercise was brought to the school premises as the students were still on academic session.
Ubani lamented that his personal aide, Nweke Henry, a 200-level student of Industrial Technology, who just completed his examination, was one of the victims of the incident.
The state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Mustafa, confirmed the incident, adding that one of the students died from gunshot injuries.
