The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned Nigerians to beware of a website asking individuals to register for their national identification numbers (NIN).

A broadcast message, which has been shared across social media platforms, alongside a link asked Nigerians to register for NIN through the site.

The message noted that the federal government approved of individual registration to avoid the crowd at the NIMC centers.

“Federal Government has approved individual NIN registration online to avoid unnecessary crowd in the NIMC centres. Enroll Now. http://bit.ly/NIN-ONLINE-REG,”
it reads.

But in a tweet, the NIMC issued a disclaimer saying it is not associated with the website.

“This website/platform is not associated with NIMC. It is run by fraudsters. Protect your personal information, do not become a victim,” the NIMC disclaimer reads.
