Senatorial Battle: APC’s Amosun Wins, Ajimobi ‘Struggling’, Gov. Dankwambo Defeated, reports TheCable Newspaper

Ibrahim Dankwambo, two-term governor of Gombe, lost out in his bid to represent Gombe north senatorial district in the national assembly.

The governor, who contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was defeated by Sa’idu Alkali of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alkali won in four of the five local government areas of Gombe north senatorial district. The APC candidate scored 152,546 votes ahead of Dankwambo who had 88,016 votes.

Dankwambo had earlier lost in the bid to secure the presidential ticket of the PDP.

In Ogun, it’s victory for Ibikunle Amosun, a two-term governor like Dankwambo. He once occupied the senatorial seat of Ogun central.

Despite the crisis in the APC in Ogun, Amosun polled 88,110 votes to defeat his Action Democratic Party (ADP rival who had 65,101 votes.

But in Oyo, Abiola Ajimobi, the governor, is struggling to hold unto the senatorial seat in Oyo south. Kola Balogun, the PDP candidate, has won in all of the four local government areas announced so far.

Oyo south has nine local government areas. Ajimobi is seeking to return to the senate to occupy a seat he was elected governor in 2011.

He goes into history as the first Oyo governor to break the second term jinx.
