Col. Garba Moyi (retd), the chairman of the recently established Sokoto Security Community Guards, has tendered his resignation on Saturday.
In a press conference held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Press Centre in Sokoto, Moyi, who had previously served as a three-term Commissioner for Security in Sokoto State, cited a social media post that targeted his reputation as the reason for his decision to resign.
The retired colonel stated, “I served the country until I retired as a Colonel, after which I entered politics and served as the chairman of my local government.
I also held the position of state commissioner for security on three different occasions until I resigned during the past administration without any blemish.”
Moyi expressed his disappointment at the circulation of a doctored video on social media, aimed at tarnishing his image.
Consequently, he believed that the best course of action was to resign from his appointment.
He also extended his gratitude to Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for deeming him suitable for the position in the first place.
