President Bola Tinubu meets APC governors and party leaders amid rising internal tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

With 2027 looming and internal cracks growing louder, Nigeria’s ruling party has moved to contain a potential political earthquake. President Bola Tinubu has activated a heavyweight internal machinery aimed at quelling rebellions, reconciling feuding blocs, and preventing an implosion within the All Progressives Congress.

A High-Powered Committee With One Mission

A new strategic committee has been unveiled with a clear mandate: calm frayed nerves, silence internal battles, and secure party dominance ahead of the next general election. The panel brings together sitting governors, senior ministers, lawmakers, and party powerbrokers signalling that the ruling party sees the threat as urgent and existential.

The Power Brokers Behind the Rescue Plan

At the helm is Mai Mala Buni, tasked with coordinating delicate negotiations across party fault lines. Serving as secretary is Muiz Banire, known for his deep institutional memory of the party’s internal legal battles.

Other influential figures on the committee include AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Hope Uzodimma, Adamu Aliero, and a lineup of governors from politically sensitive states such as Benue, Rivers, Delta, Kaduna, Cross River, Jigawa, Ekiti, and Lagos-linked power corridors.

Former power players and cabinet insiders, including Yahaya Bello, Bello Matawalle, and Adegboyega Oyetola, are also part of the effort, an indication that no faction is being ignored.

Healing the Party or Managing a Crisis?

Committee leaders insist the mission is reconciliation, inclusion, and long-term stability. The promise is to engage aggrieved factions, defuse brewing conflicts, and design a framework that prevents future rebellions before they explode into public warfare.

Yet, political watchers see more than peace talks. To many, this looks like a pre-emptive containment strategy to neutralise dissent, suppress parallel ambitions, and consolidate control ahead of party primaries that could define the next decade.

Tinubu’s Warning to APC Heavyweights

Behind closed doors, the president has reportedly delivered a blunt message to party leaders: internal division is a luxury the ruling party can no longer afford. He has emphasised unity, tolerance, and accommodation as non-negotiable tools for survival in an increasingly volatile political climate.

The subtext is unmistakable: Any crack left unattended could widen into a fatal split.

Why This Committee Could Decide 2027

With governors, ministers, and party veterans sitting at the same table, the committee is positioned to influence candidate selection, power-sharing formulas, and internal discipline. Whether it becomes a genuine bridge-builder or a political control room will shape not just APC’s future, but Nigeria’s 2027 electoral landscape.
