The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election, removing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office.
The tribunal’s judgment was delivered virtually via the Zoom teleconference service, as the panel members were not physically present in court.
This ruling comes after weeks of closing arguments presented by lawyers from both parties on August 21.
Previously, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced that the candidate from the NNPP received 1,019,602 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Nasir Gawuna, who garnered 890,705 votes. The NNPP candidate secured a victory with a margin of 128,897 votes.
However, the APC disputed the results declared by INEC and filed a petition with the tribunal.
