The Federal Government (FG), in collaboration with the Budget Office of the Federation, has initiated a training program for personnel across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to instruct them on the utilization of the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System Budget Preparation Sub-System (GIFMIS/BPS) for crafting the 2024 budget.

The primary objective behind this training is to bolster fiscal responsibility and transparency in the management of public finances while expediting the preparation and submission of the 2024 budget to the National Assembly by October 2023.

DG introduces training for enhanced fiscal responsibility in Lagos

Mr. Ben Akabueze, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, unveiled this initiative during a two-day training session in Lagos for the South-West region.

Represented by Hajiya Hapsatu Momoh, the Director of Revenue and Fiscal Policies at the Budget Office of the Federation (now Ministry of Planning and Economic Development), Akabueze underscored the FG’s commitment to strengthening fiscal responsibility and accountability in public fund management.

The GIFMIS Budget Preparation Subsystem Training program equips participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to facilitate budgetary processes.

This technology-driven system enhances efficiency, reduces bottlenecks, and promotes accountability.

Akabueze also emphasized the FG’s dedication to timely budget submissions, aiming to present the 2024 budget by the end of October 2023.
