The Federal Government has announced its intention to collaborate with terminal operators to undertake the rehabilitation of the Apapa and Tincan Island ports, as well as other related projects, with an estimated cost of $800 million, approximately N593 billion.
Oyetola discusses port rehabilitation during visit
Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, made this declaration during a familiarization visit to the Apapa and Tincan Island ports, led by Muhammad Bello-Koko, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and his management team.
During the visit, several terminals were inspected, including AP Muller Terminal, ENL, Dangote, Greenville Development Nigeria Limited, ABTL, NPA Dockyard, Josephdam, Ports & Terminal Multipurpose Limited, and others.
Earlier in April, Bello-Koko had mentioned that the NPA might need to allocate up to $800 million for the reconstruction of some of the nation’s seaports.
Responding to this, Minister Oyetola acknowledged the deteriorating condition of the port infrastructure and emphasized the urgency of rehabilitation.
