Daoud Yaya Brahim, the Chadian Defence Minister, has submitted his resignation in the wake of a sex tape controversy involving government officials.
Local media outlet Tchad One reported that Brahim’s decision to step down followed several attempts to clear his name and deny his involvement in the leaked video.
The former minister also allegedly took actions to mitigate the situation, including the reported imprisonment of two girls.
The media report called for the immediate release of the detained individuals.
Shortly after Brahim’s resignation, Haliki Choua Mahamat, the government’s General Secretary, also tendered his resignation.
This followed the circulation of a separate sex tape featuring him in the company of a young woman on social media.
Mahamat expressed his indignation at the exposure of his private life and announced his intention to file a complaint in court.
A brief statement from Prime Minister Saleh Kebzabo confirmed the acceptance of the resignations of Defence Minister Daoud Yaya Brahim and General Secretary Haliki Choua Mahamat, without providing further details.
According to reports from Jeune Afrique, a French magazine, President Mahamat Idriss Déby and Kebzabo had requested the officials’ resignations to ensure a smooth transition to democratic rule without any scandals.
