UPDATE: Final Decision Stalled On Ambode Due To Tinubu’s Absence At 22-member GAC Meeting

Lagos, Nigeria News 23rd September, 2018: The meeting of the Governor Advisory Committee on Saturday could not make any tangible decision due to the absence of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, reports Punch Newspaper.

GAC was supposed to decide the governorship candidate of the APC in the 2019 elections.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had expressed his willingness to go for a second term.

However two former commissioners in the state – Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Femi Hamzat- had also obtained their forms.

Tinubu, according to Punch, could not leave Osun State due to the governorship election in the state.

The meeting was fixed for Saturday with the hope that Tinubu would be there.

His absence, however, delayed the members from making final key decisions.

The governorship ticket of Lagos State had generated public interest after Sanwo-Olu got the backing of the Mandate Movement in the Lagos APC.

The Mandate Movement is led by Tinubu, who was Ambode’s political godfather.

The chairmen of the 57 councils also declared support for Sanwo-Olu.

The governor and Tinubu have been in the news in the past few days because of an alleged rift over the second term bid of Ambode.

The governor has been battling internal wrangling within his party that resulted in the emergence of the two other APC stalwarts, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Mr Obafemi Hamzat.

Both of them have signified their interest in slugging it out with him at the party’s primary for the APC governorship ticket in Lagos State.

The emergence of the duo followed a rumoured frosty relationship between Ambode and APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who hitherto was regarded as his political godfather and mentor.

GAC is the state’s highest advisory political body headed by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The governorship aspirants who have obtained nomination forms and submitted same, include: incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Tinubu preferred candidate and Managing Director, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Femi Hamzat.

The 22-man council members, who met at Tinubu’s, Bourdillon residence, Ikoyi, Lagos, Saturday evening.
