Godwin Emezue, the deputy vice-chancellor (academics) of the Abia State University (ABSU), has been abducted in Umuahia.
Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the Abia police command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
Chinaka said the abduction occurred at 7pm on Friday while Emezue was at a fuel station in Umuekwu Amachara, Umuahia South LGA.
The police PRO said the hoodlums confiscated the ATM card of the DVC’s wife during the incident.
Chinaka said, per intelligence provided to the police, they then dragged the academic into a Lexus SUV and drove away.
The PRO urged the public to collaborate with the police through the provision of information that could lead to the DVC’s rescue.
She further called on Abia residents to remain calm and continue their activities while maintaining vigilance and security consciousness.
“The Abia state police command is deploying resources and assets including intelligence and technical aid towards unravelling the crime, and safely rescuing the victim from his captors”, Chinaka’s statement reads in part.
