FUOYE introduces N30,000 per course for examination re-sit fee for students

The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, has announced a new examination re-sit fee of N30,000 per course for students who need to retake exams.

This decision, revealed in a memorandum signed by the university’s Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, applies exclusively to students in the faculties of Pharmacy and Basic Medical Sciences.

Fee sparks student concerns

A re-sit examination is typically taken when a student fails a test or examination on their initial attempt.

The memo, dated October 13, 2023, and labeled “FUOYE/REG/MM/105/Vol3/409,” cited the university’s management’s approval of this fee, which will be applicable to students from the 200 level and above.

Some students at the institution have expressed concern about the perceived high cost of the examination re-sit fee.

A 300-level pharmacy student, speaking anonymously, voiced their unease, stating that the prospect of paying N30,000 per course for multiple subjects was financially burdensome.

Another student, also requesting anonymity, shared their apprehension, emphasizing the financial strain in the current economic climate.

They questioned the necessity of such fees, particularly when compared to other universities that do not impose similar charges.

Efforts are underway to engage the school’s management on this issue, as indicated by an unnamed student leader, though no official response from the university has been provided at the time of this report.
