Nigeria's senior national team have dropped 14 places to 57th in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday – their poorest drop April 2014 despite defeating Chad 2-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June.

The position is the worst for the Eagles team in recent times especially when one looks back that the same Nigerian team had soared as high as the 5th spot in the order of football ranking across the world before now. Algeria, who are 19th in the world, remain the highest ranked team in Africa

The Super Eagles slipped one place to be ranked tenth African side behind Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, Congo, Cape Verde Island and Egypt.

Argentina leapfrogged over Belgium and Germany to take the top spot in the world ranking for the first time in seven years as new South American champions Chile have moved up eight positions, only just missing out on a top-ten ranking at number 11.
