The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) has called on the Federal Government to address the sharp rise in gas prices, warning of its detrimental impact on their business viability.
During the 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM)/Conference held in Ibadan, Mr. Abideen Olatunbosun, the National President of NALPGAM, made this plea.
Marketers warn of gas becoming luxury
He emphasized that if immediate measures were not taken to address the price increases, gas could soon become a luxury accessible only to the wealthy.
Olatunbosun stated, “The recent substantial surge in gas prices poses a significant challenge to LPG marketers.
The government must explore ways to stabilize gas prices and ensure its availability to the average Nigerian.
If the price continues to rise unchecked, gas may become a commodity reserved for the affluent in our society.”
He stressed the importance of enhancing the country’s gas utilization, highlighting its potential to preserve forests, enhance the quality of life, and boost the economy.
The escalating gas prices, he asserted, should be a matter of concern for all.
