In August 2023, the Nigerian box office witnessed a substantial boost in revenue, with a total of N603 million generated from ticket sales across the country, according to data analyzed by the Cinema Association of Nigeria.
This marked an impressive 25% increase compared to the previous month’s revenue of N482,528,117 in July.
Nigeria reports encouraging patronage in August
Opeyemi Ajayi, the National Chairman of the Cinema Association of Nigeria, expressed optimism about the encouraging patronage at cinemas during August.
He reported that a total of 212,192 viewers were admitted to cinemas during this period.
Ajayi attributed the surge in revenue and visitor patronage to the captivating movies that were showcased in August, including titles like “Akuddaya,” “Meg 2,” “Teenage Mutant Minja,” “A Bag of Trouble,” “Blue Beetle,” “Mikolo,” “The Modern Woman,” “Retribution,” and “Kesari.”
He encouraged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of visiting cinemas, emphasizing that it provides a perfect escape to alleviate stress and unwind.
Looking ahead to September, Ajayi teased an exciting lineup of movies to be featured in cinemas, including “Equaliser 3,” “Something Like Gold,” “The Nun,” “Mami Wata,” “Kanaani,” “A Haunting in Venice,” “Expendables 4,” “Weekend to Forget,” “The Creator,” “The Dive,” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
