Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South: APC Candidate, Ugwuegede Challenges PDP, Others To Debate

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Nsukka/Igbo Eze South House of Representatives seat, Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede has challenged other parties’ candidates to a debate.

Ugwuegede gave the open challenge in a statement issued on Monday by the Director-General of the Gedegede Campaign Organisation, Okosisi Emeka Ngwu.

He declared that every of the campaign should be based on issues, urging the electorates to rate individual candidates by their antecedents.

He pledged “to run an issue-based, ethical but robust campaign. We shall demonstrate our understanding of the challenges, problems and opportunities yet untapped that abound in our place and our recommendations, remedies and pathways to solving these problems and harnessing these opportunities, drawing on the larger APC mandate for the emancipation of our people.

“We will, within the course of the campaign period, also outline the qualities and endearing character, integrity, capacity, sense of mission and an unrelenting stand for truth and justice, of our candidate Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, and why we think the people of Nsukka and Igboeze should vote for him.

“We daresay Vote for him again, as the people did do in the past election, electing him as their representative, a fact unmatched by any of the present-day contestants or pretenders to the seat.

“Indeed, we invite the good people of Nsukka and Igboeze South to scrutinise the antecedents, history and records of all those seeking to serve them. Would you hire a worker without asking about his past? If he has worked for someone before you would ask for a referral or some validation of his integrity and capacity.

“We urge you, good people of Nsukka and Igboeze South, not to hire a goat to look after your yams or a felon to guard your treasury. The seat of the federal house of representatives of our constituency belongs to you the people and you alone. It belongs neither to the government nor to any political party. It belongs to the people. All contestants have come as individuals, sent by their respective parties, to seek your consent to occupy the seat.

“Do not permit anyone, dressed in government robes or not, to coerce you regarding your choice of who to vote for. Do not sell your vote. Use your vote wisely and hire the candidate who would serve with passion and integrity and not ignorance and arrogance.

“Use your votes to make the choice that will reverse the inequity and injustice brought on us by those who would sow greed and discord into the healthy fabric of brotherhood and conviviality between the two local government areas.”

He challenged all candidates “who dare, to meet us at town hall meetings and debates. We shall be happy to join issues with them at appropriate venues.

“To the people of Nsukka and Igboeze South, our message is simple: You deserve better representation than you have received these past twelve years.”
