Nigeria Police Arrest Masterminds Of Kuje, Nyanya Bombings In Abuja

 

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase yesterday said that two masterminds of the recent bombings in Kuje and Nyanya in Abuja have been arrested.

 

The IGP stated this during a conference with Strategic Police Managers held at the force headquarters in Abuja.

 

On 2nd October multiple suicide bombings were carried out almost at the same time in Nyanya and Kuje both suburbs of Abuja, killing about 20 people and injuring  over 40 others. 

 

The police boss said they had  arrested two terror elements that undertook the fatal operation. He gave their names as Abdulazeez Muhazab and Isiaka Salihu.

According to him, the arrest of the suspects foiled another attempt by the terrorists to undertake another attack in the FCT.

 

Arase said 12 already prepared and primed Home Made Explosives (HME) concealed in 12 soft drink cans, 28 pieces of electronic detonators and huge quantities of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making materials were discovered from them.

 

He said the suspects were aiding police investigation into their broad terror network and would be brought to justice soon.

 

The police boss also said five of the eight man gang that participated in the kidnap of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Chief Olu Falae, have been arrested by the police.

 

Arase said those arrested include Abubakar Auta, Idris Lawan, Umar Ibrahim, Masaudu and Bello Tanu.

 

He noted that the suspects who operated  a state-wide kidnap ring were arrested at their hideouts in Niger, Ekiti and Ondo states.

 

“Items recovered from them include the Bajaj motorcycle used to transport the victim, cash sum of N823, 990 which was part of the ransom allegedly received,” Arase said.

 

He added that all the suspects had  made confessional statements on the operations and their individual roles and being charged in court in Akure, Ondo State.

Fielding questions from journalists, Arase said those two that were paraded before the State Security Service were part of that eight man gang.

 

Arase said he had written a letter to the DG SSS to say that they are arraigning those arrested in court, once they bring the other two people and amend the charges to accommodate them.
