Lekan Fatodu, a journalist, had facilitated Sowore’s arrest over alleged criminal defamation and blackmail. Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Fatai Owoseni confirmed to SKYTREND NEWS on telephone that Omoyele Sowore was released very late Wednesday, but him and Mr Lekan Fatodu were asked to return to the station at Panti by 2pm on Thursday to state their cases. TheCable quoted Sowore as earlier accusing the police of taking sides with Fatodu, whom he said assaulted him. “I was physically attacked today by a gang led by Lekan Fatodu… he assaulted me before police officers at Area “F” in Ikeja in Lagos,” he had said. “After the police intervened soon as I was attacked by Lekan Fatodu and his friends in Lagos, we were taken to the CP’s office in Lagos. “Turns out he was in on this, he pulled out a supposed petition written by Lekan from his hat after that he became very hostile towards me and ordered that we be driven to State CID, at Panti in Lagos. “It is very obvious that this was planned between Lekan Fatodu and the police. They offered him unbridled support as he continued attacking me.” However when SKYTREND NEWS called Mr Fatai Owoseni on telephone on Thursday to seek the true position of the issue and to respond to the allegation that the police was taking side, he said: “We discovered there was an altercation between Mr Omoyele Sowore, Sahara Reporters Publisher And Mr Lekan Fatodu a journalist in GRA, Ikeja and we swiftly disparched our men there and both of them were brought to my office for them to state their cases.” The CP added, “We then found out that the assault between them was not unconnected to the fact the Mr Fatodu had earlier accused Sowore of blackmailing him in a guise to exhort money from him, and that he was defaming his character and that he (Fatodu) had earlier submitted a petition against the Publisher. I then referred their cases to Panti and sent both of them there to state their cases.” According to Mr Fatai, “Fatodu is expected to narrate his case while Sowore will also narrate his own side of the story. It’s not about detaining anybody. OurS is just to ascertain whether any crime has been committed, before we charge anybody to court.” Meanwhile Dolapo Badmos, spokeswoman of the Lagos police command also denied the allegation that the police was taking side, saying the police intervened in a dispute between both men. See The Statement In Part She released earlier which corroborated the CP’s testimony: “Today, 11/1/2017 at about 15:39hrs, a distress call was received by the Lagos State Police Command that Mr Omoyele Sowore – Publisher of Sahara Reporters was being attacked by suspected hoodlums around Isaac John street, GRA, Ikeja,” she said in a statement. “The police swiftly responded, and upon arrival at the scene contrary to the report that a robbery attack was taking place, the police met the duo of Mr Omoyele Sowore and Mr Lekan Fatodu engaged in a brawl/altercation. “With a view to ascertaining what led to the false alarm of a robbery, both parties were taken before the commissioner of police.” “In the course of police intervention, it was found out that the brawl is in connection with an earlier complaint of alleged threat to life, defamation of character and blackmail made by Lekan against Omoyele.” “Both parties were subsequently referred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti where the case has been under investigation.” For Adverts Placement Or Free News Updates, Contact Us On WhatsApp: 08083609209.
