£4.9m Credit Aid: 316 Journalists Get ActionAid, SCRAP-C Empowerment

An anti corruption advocacy group, Strengthening Citizen’s Resistance Against Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAP-C), says 16 Investigative journalists in Nigeria have been empowered from its £4.9million credit project while a total of 300 journalists have been given capacity building training.

The Project Manager, SCRAP-C, ActionAid Nigeria, Mr Newton Otsemaye, speaking at the ongoing Advanced Investigative Reporting Training for Nigerian journalists, organised by ActionAid, a partner group of SCRAP-C, holding at Swiss International d’palms Airport Hotel, Ajao Estate, Lagos, says the credit aid to journalists is to fund Investigative Reporting.

He stresses that over 300 Nigerian journalists have benefited in such intensive training programme.

He adds that SCRAP-C is partnering with journalists to fight corruption and poverty in the country.

According to Otsemaye,“SCRAP-C have engaged over 300 journalists in Nigeria, and as I speak to you, about 16 investigative journalists have benefited from the aid. The project is set up to help journalists in the area of sourcing documents needed in investigations. We are partnering with the media, particularly Journalist Against Poverty (JAP) so as to effect social change in the country”.

“Presently, in partnership with ActionAid, we are now present in Lagos, Kaduna, Enugu, Bornu and Kano. We focus on four sectors – Education, Power, Health and Tax,” he concluded.

CobraReview reports that SCRAP-C had on Thursday, September 5, 2019 visited Otumara community, a popular Slum in Lagos, to campaign against urban poor livelihoods.
