Big 5 To Provide Empowerment Training For Construction Professionals

The Big 5 Construct Nigeria, an industry exhibition, will provide extensive free educational programme for construction professionals, the organisers have said.

The organisers said the event beginning Monday (today) would feature more than 20 complementary and CPD-certified workshops covering project management, technology, sustainability, affordable housing and architecture themes.

It added that the project management sessions would provide the PDU points to attending the PMI credential holders.

The Portfolio Event Director at the DMG events, organisers of the event, Muhammed Kazi, said it would be the first edition, which would hold from September 9 to 11.

“We are extremely proud to open our exhibition’s doors to all industry stakeholders and provide the largest free and certified education agenda for construction professionals Nigeria has ever hosted,” he said.

According to him, topnotch line-up of speakers has been arranged for the event.

“As we aim to support the expanding requirements of the promising local construction sector, we trust the event will go a long way in serving Nigeria’s strategic development goals, providing top quality knowledge to the local community,” he added.

He stated that the senior architect for Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Taiwo Aiyepe, would conduct a workshop on ‘Building collapse in Lagos, the architect’s place’ at The Big 5 Construct Nigeria.

Aiyepe was quoted to have said there were a number of causes behind the collapse of buildings in Nigeria, such as incompetence, the use of substandard materials, inadequate design, physical failure and natural disasters.

“By attending my presentation at The Big 5 Construct Nigeria, industry professionals and the general public will unlearn obsolete practices and finally learn a few tips towards a paradigm shift to address the issue of building collapses,” he said.

The Creative Director at Lisa Interiors, Polola Oladipo, would also conduct a workshop on ‘Addressing affordable housing and architecture in Nigeria’, the organisers said.
