Ikeja Electric Rolls out New Metre To Customers: How To Get Yours

Ikeja Electric Plc says it has fully commenced the rollout of meters under the Meter Asset Provider scheme to all customers across its network.

The power firm said the metering was restricted to only customers in Ikorodu, Abule-Egba and Shomolu Business Units in the first phase, which ended in July.

It said from the beginning of August, the exercise had been extended to customers in Ikeja, Akowonjo and Oshodi Business Units.

The MAP scheme, introduced by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission last year to bridge the metering gap in the power sector, enables third-party companies, called meter asset providers to procure and install meters for electricity consumers.

Ikeja Electric, in collaboration with one of its MAPs, Mojec Metering Asset Company, held a Customers Engagement Forum on Thursday to sensitise customers in Shomolu Business Unit on the registration process, survey, payment and installation of meters.

The Chief Operating Officer, Ikeja Electric, Mrs Folake Soetan, reiterated the company’s commitment to leveraging the opportunity provided by the MAP scheme to close the metering gap across its network and remove estimated billing.

“The scheme will ensure accelerated meter deployment to unmetered customers, and eliminate every form of controversy regarding the accuracy of electricity bills. We have taken concrete actions in terms of planning and manpower deployment for adequate metering” she said.

She advised customers to register through the company’s website, after which a survey would be carried out to determine the type of meter that would be suitable for their premises.

Soetan said the company had set up a debt resolution panel in its six business units to address disputed outstanding bills and ensure reconciliation.

He urged customers to pay into the designated bank account provided on the online MAP portal and quote their Application Reference Number when making any payment.

She advised new customers to visit the nearest Ikeja Electric office for account creation and set-up to enable them to start their registration for meter.

She said, “As part of the registration process, customers will be required to provide a valid email address and telephone number as they will be contacted through the information provided.”
