The Lagos State government is determined to eliminate the backlog of pensions by the close of 2023, according to Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training.

This commitment aligns with the government’s broader objectives under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, which seeks to modernize the civil service to meet 21st-century public service standards.

Clearing pension backlog

Mr. Ayantayo, speaking from his office in Alausa, Ikeja, affirmed the state’s reputation as one of the most pension administration-compliant states in the country.

He emphasized Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to resolving pension arrears, with the goal of clearing the backlog by the end of 2023.

This action will ensure that retirees from 2024 onward receive their entitlements without any delay.

The commissioner highlighted the government’s commitment to ongoing workforce capacity development.

In the coming months, they plan to increase learning and development initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of the state’s employees.
