Muhammad Nami, the former executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), announced that during his tenure, the agency generated N8 trillion in eight months, and the country’s tax-to-gross domestic product ratio increased to 10.86 percent.

President Bola Tinubu recently placed Nami on terminal leave and appointed Zaccheus Adedeji, a former Oyo state commissioner of finance, as his replacement.

In a farewell statement, Nami expressed gratitude to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation and its people.

He also thanked FIRS staff, taxpayers, and Nigerians for their support and cooperation, which enabled his team to surpass tax collection targets and set new records.

Nami stated that the tax-to-GDP ratio had already reached 10.86 percent within two years of his tenure, surpassing the promised goal of 10 percent in four years.

He expressed pride in his service and the implementation of world-class best practices at FIRS.
