Doyin Okupe, the former Campaign Director General of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council, has been admitted to the hospital due to a battle with cancer.

Recent reports reveal that Okupe had recently returned from Israel, where he had been seeking treatment for prostate cancer, though regrettably, his condition had not shown signs of improvement.

A source closely connected to the Okupe family disclosed to SaharaReporters, “Okupe, the former campaign DG to Peter Obi recently returned from Israel where he was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

Family members are concerned that his condition has not improved since his return from Israel.”

It’s worth noting that Okupe had faced legal issues in December 2022 when he was found guilty of receiving over N200 million in cash from a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd).

As a result, he was sentenced to two years in prison by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court offered an option of a N500,000 fine for each of the 26 count charges he was found guilty of, amounting to N13 million in total.

During the sentencing, Justice Ojukwu ruled that Okupe had violated the Money Laundering Act and provided him until 4:30 p.m. on that day to pay the fine option on all charges or face incarceration at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Okupe’s wife, Omolola, and his son, Adesunkanmi, had appealed to Justice Ojukwu for leniency.
