NIPCO Gas Limited has officially inaugurated a compressed natural gas (CNG) facility in Oron, Akwa Ibom state, according to an announcement made on the company’s official LinkedIn page.

This CNG facility will cater to the auto CNG needs of daughter-booster stations located in the South-South region of Nigeria.

NIPCO Gas is actively expanding its network of CNG stations throughout Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Tinubu’s N100 billion CNG bus plan

This development aligns with President Tinubu’s earlier commitment to invest N100 billion in the acquisition of 3,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered 20-seater buses, as announced during a nationwide address on August 1.

This initiative is a response to economic challenges following the removal of petrol subsidies, which led to increased fuel prices and difficulties in transportation.

In support of this endeavor, the NNPC disclosed a partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited for the construction of 35 CNG stations across Nigeria.

NIPCO Gas Limited had already been operating 14 CNG stations in the country and had successfully converted over 7,000 vehicles to run on CNG.

The NNPC expects that NIPCO’s technical expertise and industry experience will enhance the success and economic impact of this initiative.
